A Hip and Stylish Hatchback for South Carolina: The 2018 Kia Soul
You've probably seen the Kia Soul on the highway, it is quite a popular hatchback due to its iconic boxy style, efficient engine and impressive interior space. Many Trims, Many Options, Same Practicality
The Kia Soul comes available in three different trims: the Kia Soul Base, Kia Soul + and Kia Soul !. As you go through all of these trims, you'll find that the range of available conveniences increases, but each trim has the same durability and excellent safety features that earned this hatchback a place in the prestigious 2018 Top Safety Pick + list by the Insurance Institute for Highway and Safety (IIHS). Such features include front and rear crumple zones, rear child safety locks, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and Hill Start Assist Control (HSAC, in addition to the many airbags and child seat safety anchors. When you upgrade to trims such as the Kia Soul + and Kia Soul !, you'll find a few more features for your comfort and convenience, such as:
- UVO with Eight-Inch Touch-Screen Display, Premium Navigation and HD Radio
- Harman/Kardon® Audio System with Center Speaker, Subwoofer and External Amplifier
- Supervision Meter Cluster with 4.3-Inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Color LCD Display
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS)
- And Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
Speed, Power and Efficiency
A car is only as good as its engine, which is why the engines of each trim have so much significance; each one providing a smoother and more efficient driving experience that makes the Kia Soul fun to operate, no matter the terrain. The standard engine of the Kia Soul Base is a 1.6-Liter, 130 Horsepower DOHC 16-Valve I4 engine that generates 118 pound-feet of engine torque and gains an EPA-estimated 25 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. The engine of the Kia Soul + has the same fuel efficient, but a little bit more speed to offer, with an engine that is capable of 161 horsepower and generates 150 pound-feet of maximum engine torque.
It is possible to have speed and fuel efficiency in one engine, though many would argue otherwise. The engine of the Kia Soul ! trim allows you to have both thanks to it's top-of-the-line engine: a 1.6 liter, 201 Horsepower DOHC 16-Valve I4 Engine with a Turbocharger that generates 195 pound-feet of engine torque and gains an EPA estimated 26 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. Most trims come standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, though the Kia Soul Base comes available with a six-speed manual transmission, for those of you who appreciate driving stick.

A Spacious Interior for Any Need!
Most other hatchback models aren't too different from their sedan counterparts, in terms of interior space, with many hatchbacks offering the same amount of passenger space and only a little bit more cargo space. However, as we said before, the Kia Soul is not your typical hatchback and features 101 cubic feet of interior passenger volume (or 96.8 cubic feet with the panoramic sunroof), which is closer to the interior space of a mid-sized SUV. The Kia Soul has about 24.2 cubic feet of cargo volume, which is twice the cargo volume of many leading sedans, and increases to 61.3 cubic feet when you fold in the rear seats. The Kia Soul may come in three different trims, but the flexible interior space remains unchanging, unless the panoramic sunroof is added to the hatchback.
